About this role
Remote Raven is hiring a GL Accountant for a long-established US community association management company headquartered in the Mountain time zone. Their communities are large, master-planned and long-lived, and the people who manage them on the ground depend on a small offsite accounting team to tell them where each community actually stands. You would own that answer for a portfolio of associations. Monthly, quarterly and annual statements. The accruals that make a month honest. Bank and balance sheet reconciliations that tie. Budgets, and the variance conversations that follow them. Setting up communities as they come on, and closing them out cleanly when they go. You would also review and approve work prepared by other accountants, which means your judgment is the last check before numbers reach a board. This role takes a different level of trust than a production accounting seat. Boards are volunteers who read your statements and make real decisions from them. Community managers call you when an owner is upset about a number. You will be asked to explain, sometimes to defend, and occasionally to say plainly that something was wrong and here is the correction. It suits someone who is precise, unflappable and quick to respond. Financial Reporting & Month-End Close Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements for a portfolio of community associations. Record monthly expense accruals so each period carries the costs that actually belong to it. Assemble complete financial packages for board presentations and management review. Maintain audit-ready workpapers that support every number in the statements. Hit a fixed monthly close calendar across several communities at the same time. Review & Quality Control Review and approve financial work prepared by other members of the accounting team. Catch errors before they reach a board packet, rather than after a board member finds them. Keep treatment consistent across every community in the portfolio. Reconciliations & Balance Sheet Integrity Perform monthly bank reconciliations for operating and reserve accounts. Reconcile other balance sheet accounts and resolve differences properly instead of forcing them to balance. Keep reserve funds and operating funds correctly separated at all times. Budgets & Variance Analysis Review, prepare, enter, track and report community budgets. Flag variances against budget and identify what is actually driving them. Support the annual budget preparation cycle. Community Setup, Transitions & Terminations Set up new communities and their accounts as they come on board. Process community terminations, including the final reconciliation and clean handover. Maintain accurate, complete and retrievable financial records throughout. Client & Stakeholder Communication Handle a high volume of calls and emails from the internal team, community managers and board members. Explain financial statements to people who are not accountants, in language they can act on. Stay calm and professional in difficult conversations and with strong personalities. Respond quickly. Responsiveness is a core expectation of this seat, not a bonus. Requirements An active CPA license. Strong working knowledge of GAAP, applied in a community association or comparable multi-entity environment. A demonstrated ability to carry high volume across multiple client accounts without accuracy slipping. Advanced Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, budget tracking and financial reporting, plus solid Microsoft Word. Strong written and verbal English, including the ability to explain numbers to non-financial readers. Availability to work full time on a US Mountain Standard Time schedule. A reliable home setup: a working computer, stable high-speed internet and a backup connection. Preferred Qualifications Direct experience with homeowner association (HOA) or community association accounting. Experience on a community association management platform such as Vantaca, TOPS, CINC, Jenark o
